Thermocouple Probe Fix
I found a minor flaw with the two small thermocouple probes as supplied (pictured just below the reader here). The insulated wires pass into the yellow plastic plug body, but they are not prevented from rotating. In normal use, the wires can rotate, and cause the very fine wires inside the yellow plastic body to touch and short (which makes the probe temporarily stop working). Those wires aren't very durable, and enough abuse could cause them to break.
Fortunately the fix is simple. I applied a drop of "superglue" (cyanoacrylate) to the point where the blue plastic sheath enters the yellow plug body. After overnight setting, it has stopped the wire from twisting.
Real Charcoal
Hello from Missouri!
I made an offhand remark to Abram, and he suggested it was worthwhile enuff to go up on the board with: we have plentiful hardwood charcoal here in the Ozarks. I can walk into any grocery store and buy big sacks of it; but, other GEKers may not have this particular resource available... details of procurement, to interested persons, on request.
